You will be directed to follow the guidelines by providing via postal mail the signed letters required. Then your request will be prioritized among the staff and the staff member will contact you directly with information regarding your project. In order to obtain GIS data from the Philadelphia Water Department in electronic format, we require two letters of request and intent. One letter must be from the City Agency or Community group that has contracted your firm, stating that they have hired your firm to do this work. The second letter must be on your firm's own letterhead and must include the following information: A title for the project. A brief rationalization for the request. A description of the geospatial coverage(s) required. any plans for the publication/dissemination of the data. A statement that this data shall be for the exclusive use of this project and shall not be used for any other project, nor shall it be distributed to any other user. A statement that this data will be installed on one (1) computer hard drive only and shall be erased from that computer hard drive upon the completion of the project. A statement that this data shall NOT in any way be published on the Internet. a statement that the requestor will not hold the City of Philadelphia responsible for any data inaccuracies or any modifications that the requestor makes to the original data. We require these letters from everyone who wants digitally distributed data. We may provide the data in the following formats: ESRI shapefiles or Personal ESRI Geodatabases. We can also provide a PDF of a map area or a TIF or JPEG (JPG) en This data shows Philadelphia Water Department Utility Assets. Its accuracy varies by location. Most of the data is accurate to +/- 1 ft based on the Construction As-Built Drawings it was digitized from. Some areas such as the Philadelphia Naval Business District (Navy Yard) or the Airport are not nearly as accurate as they were derived from other sources. These sources include but are not limited to: old navy construction documents, field surveys, various conflicting maps both digital and paper. The data took three years to create and it is maintained daily by PWD GIS UNIT. The new maintenance edits are of higher spatial accuracy as GPS equipment is available for field surveys. Query the edited_date field after May 2005 to see the newer edits. The Purpose of this data is to describe the asset both locationally and via its attributes which are extensive for a GIS dataset and which are maintained. This data will serve as a platform for planning, analysis and research at PWD. The data was converted to coverages by CH2MHILL and its subcontractors. PWD GIS Unit decided to use Geometric Networks for maintenance and so had these coverages brought into 5 different networks: Water, Raw Water, Waste Water and Storm Water and High Pressure Fire System (Decommissioned 2004). Importing the coverages into the geometric networks was a considerable task but allowed PWD GIS to create a full set of connectivity rules which assist greatly in maintenance. NAVD 88, but any elevation data on features is held explicitly in the elevation field. Example (elevation rim of manholes is in Philly Datum.) Note: the Philadelphia vertical datum differs from the NGVD 1929 vertical datum by 5.71 feet and differs by +/- 4.63 feet as related to NAVD 1988 vertical datum. The assets themselves do not have a Z-value for elevation. There are elevation attributes for some of the data such as but not limited to Manholes: RIM_ELEVATION for example. These are in feet (US) The ERV (Engineering Records Viewer) system was used as a digital document management system by CH2MHILL to download the as built construction drawings, plat, plates, water age cards. The Rider Sheets which show the sketches of the field work were not part of this digital system and the paper copies were used disc WATER: The data was taken from ESRI Covergaes and moved into Geodatabases on the ArcSDE 9.0 platform. The geodatabases were then formed into Geometric Networks as full connectivity rules were applied.
